Everyone loves to get all gussied up for the holidays but who wants to spend a ton of money on a something you may only wear a few times? Not me. So, I’ve scoured the stores to find you some great dresses that are reasonably priced, that can be worn again for other occasions, that de-emphasize flaws and that, of course, are stylish.
Keep in mind that if you need something to cover your legs black tights will work with all of these except the gold and grey dress from Lulu’s. Try grey tights instead and wear with a shoe in a similar shade.
Note: If you want to order something from Miss Selfridge or Asos be sure to do so right away. They are both based in England so it will take longer for the item to arrive. Good news though – Asos offers free shipping both ways!
(Left to right, starting with top row)
Versace for H&M ($149/H&M): It’s hard to find a dress that’s sexy without being sleazy but this one does it.
Lemon Balm Gold and Grey Dress ($38/Lulu’s)
Miss Selfridge Plum Pleated Midi Dress (reg. $68, now $35/Lulu’s) – If you are shorter than 5’5″ you’ll need to get this dress hemmed to right at the top of your knee. Otherwise, you’ll look shorter and squattier.
Kimono Waisted Dress with Belt ($63/Asos)
Animal Print Tulle and Sequin Dress ($39/Pitaya): The belt on this dress is a bit cheap looking in person. Cover it up with your own belt and you’ll be good to go.
Rainbow Lurex Cross Back Dress ($160/Topshop): I absolutely love this dress!
Shift Dress with Knot Front (reg. $90, now $54/Asos)
When the Night Comes Dress ($96/Modcloth)
Zara Shiny Dress (reg. $80, now $50/Zara): If you have any body shape besides hourglass you can wear this dress without a belt. Hourglass bodies need to belt it for sure or they risk looking pregnant.
Shaina Trim Detail Dress (reg. $50, now $40/Alloy)
