Let’s face it. With kids, life is rarely dull. And often chaotic. Whether it’s a trip to the emergency room (again), having to cover for the carpool mom whose car breaks down on the way to school in the morning, or running out when your 16-year-old gets into a fender bender and calls in hysterics, a mom often has to get out the door in the blink of an eye. The fact that she hasn’t brushed her hair, isn’t wearing make-up, and is in her pajamas and bunny slippers is of little concern; when duty calls, she’s on it.

There are times when fashion isn’t important

At times like this, fashion is the last thing on a mom’s mind. What she’s wearing or whether her hair is only half dry doesn’t matter, but a functional pair of shoes does. An emergency can put you in any number of situations from running on hot concrete to dodging puddles, so a mom must be prepared for anything. There’s no time to run around the house looking for an appropriate pair of shoes. So, what if the slippers you were already wearing could do the trick?

The “run out the door” shoe dilemma solved

A good pair of slippers should keep feet warm, of course. But a pair of “mom slippers” must do so much more: they can’t have fabric soles that will cause you to slip on the floor when running to stop a toddler from putting a button up their nose; they should be durable enough to navigate a baseball field to get to a crying second baseman;  and they must stay securely on the foot in order to maneuver through crowds when the ride at the fair causes a child’s lunch to be expelled. Inexpensive is important as well, and hey, a little bit of style doesn’t hurt either.

A pair to meet a mom’s needs

Recently, the fine folks at Daniel Green sent me a pair of slippers to try out. I chose a style that I thought would work for moms called Kiki. The corduroy look made them seem durable, the black color made them versatile and less likely to show stains, and the rubber bottom meant no slipping. Plus, almost every review was positive and the price was reasonable (originally $48 but now, $39.99) . Once I received them, they didn’t disappoint.

The company offers free shipping on purchases AND returns which always makes me feel appreciated and means they stand by their products. Definitely a plus.
