While we love fashion and helping moms dress well, we also believe in making sure our planet is safe and beautiful for our children and for future generations. Today, we’ll take a quick break  to support a cause that will help make that happen.

One Blog, One Tree

Since April is Earth Month, we thought it would be the perfect time to tell you about an organization that is working to fix something we’ve, unfortunately, been a part of. Green Gestures, a reforestation project working in collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation, aims to offset the long-term CO2 emissions of online content.  In humans and other animals, increasing expsoure to CO2 can cause shortness of breath, dizziness, unconsciousness and, finally, death. Environmentally, it is a greenhouse gas contributing to global warming, melting ice caps, and the rising acidity of the oceans. We were shocked to learn that the yearly carbon footprint of traffic on the average blog creates eight pounds of CO2.

A single tree absorbs and recycles eleven pounds of carbon dioxide back into breathable oxygen each year, enough to cover any output we create and more. But think of how many times everyone on this planet clicks on a blog each day – we need all the trees we can get! By writing this post, Green Gestures will plant a tree in an American forest in our name as part of their “One Blog, One Tree” program. With that, TMS will become carbon neutral,  and that’s something we, as editors, and you, as readers, can be proud of.

A Personal Connection

As someone who fell in love with her husband while climbing trees in heels (what can I say – he was into climbing and I always dressed up and wore heels to see him so I did what any reasonable girl in love would do, I scrambled up after him, sexy heels and all!) , and raising my children to have a profound respect for nature, I am happy to support a program dedicated to replenishing the dwindling forests. A tree is not only branches and roots, oxygen and shade, and home and food for wildlife. It is whispering leaves, a playground, a vantage point from which to study the world, a teaching tool, and art supply closet. May our tree help provide all of this and more to future generations.

How to Get Involved

It’s free to participate in the “One Blog, One Tree” program. If you have a blog, write a post telling your readers about Green Gestures. In return, the organization will plant a tree in the name of your blog. For more details, click here.

  1. Hi ladies, what a beautiful idea – trees for blogs. I will check link. My husband is in the nursery business and has nursed many a tree back to health. He often brings home the sad, little strays. He feeds them and keeps them warm then we watch them grow into healthy, gorgeous trees.
    Have a great weekend!

ps Hi Kristin, my post tomorrow will include pictures my camera shy daughter (when she was younger of course) if you have the time to peek 🙂
