Tie your pussybow shirt like this for a sexier look.
By Kristin Hull
Dear Mommy Stylist,
I am a married working mom with two babies at home. I have a conference for work in Vegas in a few weeks (mid-November so kind of chilly). I work in the technology industry (conservative, technical, geeky industry). 🙂 I am looking for ideas for outfits that can work for Vegas (my husband is going with so I need little bit of sexy/fun) but will also be conservative enough for nice dinners out with our vendors. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly apprecaite them! The only thing I’ve been able to come up with is wearing a sweater/jacket over a little black dress.
Thanks,
Susan
I contacted Susan to ask a few questions before I chose some ensembles for her. She has a curvy shape so I picked things that would flatter her figure. She also told me that the outfits need to transition from a business atmosphere to a “date” with her husband because she won’t have time to go back to the hotel to change.
Note: When I travel on a short trip I choose a “base” color for my outfits. Sometimes it’s brown but more often black because it is harder to see wrinkles in black and it is easier to make black look dressy if I have something unexpected to attend that requires a nicer look. So, that said, most of my suggestions are black-based. I also tried to keep it conservative enough for the computer geeks but sassy enough to be stylish.
Outfit 1: All black is always classy and sophisticated so I suggest a pair of nice black pants with a black pussybow top (don’t blame me, I didn’t name them that) and, to keep from looking too drab, a nude blazer (that you can wear throughout the winter with so many things so it’s worth spending a little extra on). Nude clothing pieces, menswear, and pussybow shirts are very in right now so you will look totally fashionable. Wear with animal print booties (with heels or a wedge) but if those are too radical for your co-workers, black booties will work fine.
Nude blazer (reg. $140, now $89, White House Black Market): I chose this one because it is tapered at the waist which will flatter an hourglass figure.
Old Navy black pussybow top (reg. $26, now $19, Old Navy): Tie the bow up near your neck while with working colleagues and later, when you’re just with your husband, untie it and cross one through the other (like you’re starting to tie a bow but don’t finish it) and leave the part that is crossed over at the bottom of the V in the shirt for a little sex appeal (like in the photo here).

Outfit 2:Â Army green was on all the runways for fall and this versatile dress can work both day and night. Because of your curves, be sure to wear it with a black belt. Then add a pair of patterned black tights and some knee-high boots with heels. A short leather or faux-leather jacket will look adorable with it and make it a little funkier for later in the evening with your man.
Army green dress ($40, Old Navy) The fact that this dress is shorter in front than back makes it unique which, in turn, makes it look designer.
Xhilaration black Moto jacket ($40, Target): I haven’t seen this in person so before purchasing, make sure it doesn’t look to cheap. (If you order it online you can always return it.) Here’s another one from Macy’s for $50.

Outfit 3:Â Instead of the usual little black dress, try this black and white plaid version. Wear it with a long teal sweater (or any color), black tights and either black booties or knee-high boots with heels.
Plaid halter dress (reg. $150, now $79.99, White House Black Market): Because this is a halter dress, you can definitely wear it in the summer as well. And, when you are out with your husband in Vegas, you can take off the sweater and look sexy with your shoulders exposed. Make sure the hem doesn’t go below your knee though. It should be at the top of your knee cap at the longest unless your tall.
Shawl collar flyaway cardigan in teal (reg, $45, now $30, Express)

Outfit 4: Susan told me she could wear jeans one day so I suggest an animal print top with some sexy bootcut jeans that are tight on the thigh and a little wider on the bottom. Be sure to wear a tank top or camisole under the sheer shirt. Pair it with the jacket from Outfit 2 and some black booties and you’re good to go. Oh, wait! How to make this sexy for later with the hubby? Loosen the tie in the front of the shirt and pull it off one shoulder (you can even untie it all the way and let the ties just hang down). Voila! Instant hotness! Again, since you’re curvy a skinny belt like will help show your curves.
Animal print peasant shirt ($50, Victoria’s Secret)
Skinny boot-cut jeans ($35, Charlotte Russe)
